Even solo players can roam about and explore the zones to find jump puzzles to over come in search of treasure while running into enemies doing the same thing.īlizz is so scared to do anything that isn't super hand-holdy because of this notion that every single facet of the game must be easily accessible to the lowest common denominator when they really should just give players a bit more credit. Small raiding parties can serve to chip away and harry large enemy zergs while on their way to a large keep worth many points. Sure they have big armies of players like in WoW but there siege system is so much more elaborate. By having set objectives that are scattered in vast truly open world zones and not forced into some boring linear map, players are free to play how they like. The World vs World vs World as they call it (they pit 3 servers against each other for a few weeks) is some of the best PvP I've ever expericned out of any MMO. Personally I'd rather they just focus on BGs but if they insist on doing more outdoor stuff then they should take a page out of Guild Wars 2. And whenever it gets to that point it instantly stops becoming PvP and is just a mindless zerg vs zerg.

Despite trying to funnel players in with a timer and having fixed objectives, both factions would always just end up abdoning most tactis and just bum rush together.

There's a reason why instanced-based, player-capped BGs work over zones like Wintergrasp, Tol Barad (insert w/e pandas had, I skipped that shit) and the biggest flop of all Ashran. The problem with their version of open world PvP compared to other MMOs is that they keep insisting on basically making it an outdoor BG.
